The objective is to shoot a ball through the opposing team's hoop, which is mounted 10 feet above the court, to score points. Basketball was invented by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Naismith was a physical education instructor who sought to create a game that could be played indoors during the winter months. The first game was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets as goals. The sport quickly gained popularity and spread throughout the United States and around the world.

Rules and Regulations

The game is played in four quarters, each lasting 12 minutes in professional leagues like the NBA, with a 15-minute halftime break. Points are scored by shooting the ball through the opponent's hoop from different areas of the court, with shots from beyond the three-point line worth three points, and those inside it worth two. Free throws, awarded after certain fouls, are worth one point each. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

There are five main positions in basketball: point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center. Each position has specific roles:
