Jianzhen, also known as Ganjin in Japan, was a renowned Buddhist monk born in Yangzhou (in today's Jiangsu province) during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), in 688. He served as the abbot of Daming Temple in Yangzhou, where he was recognized for his profound knowledge of Buddhism and dedication to spreading Buddhist teachings. Voyage to Japan
