History and Origins

In China, polo, known as "jiju," was especially popular during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Modern Polo
Modern polo is played by teams of four riders, known as "chukkers," on a field measuring 300 yards by 160 yards. The game consists of six to eight periods, also called chukkas, each lasting seven minutes. Players aim to score by driving a small, white, plastic or wooden ball into the opposing team's goal using a long-handled mallet while riding horses. The rules of polo are designed not only for fair play but also for the safety of players and ponies.
Over time, polo has evolved to include various forms, such as arena polo, which is played on a smaller field or indoor venue, and beach polo, which is played on sand.
